Zywave Websites (formerly ITC) vs a custom insurance agency website

What Zywave Websites includes, how it grew out of ITC, what its subscription agreement says, and when a custom agency website is the better fit.

On this page

Zywave Websites suits an agency that wants a site set up from Zywave's designs, with insurance quote forms and links to its comparative rater, and that is comfortable with a term contract. A custom site suits an agency that wants a design made for it alone and clear terms on what it keeps when it leaves. Zywave publishes no prices, so compare written quotes, not list prices.

Key facts

  • Zywave agreed to buy Insurance Technologies Corporation (ITC) in November 2020. ITC then served more than 9,000 agencies (Insurance Journal).
  • Zywave calls itself "the largest provider of insurance agency websites in the US" (Zywave).
  • ITC's Insurance Website Builder site, still online, offers more than 75 designs and says it has built more than 4,000 sites (Insurance Website Builder).
  • Zywave's subscription agreement renews automatically unless either side gives notice 60 days before the term ends (Zywave agreement).

How is Zywave Websites related to ITC?

Zywave Websites is the agency website business Zywave gained when it bought ITC. The deal was announced on November 24, 2020, and its price was not disclosed. ITC, based in Carrollton, Texas, described itself as the largest provider of agency websites in the US. It also made TurboRater, which powered more than two million auto and home quotes a month at the time.

ITC's own website brand, Insurance Website Builder, still runs under the ITC name. Its terms and privacy links now lead to Zywave's privacy statement. If an ITC rep or invoice still uses the old name, it is the same company.

What does Zywave Websites include?

Zywave lists design, hosting, forms, integrations and an editor. Its product page names these features:

  • Design by Zywave staff, who add your logo, match your colours and set up the site.
  • Forms for quotes and policy service, built for phones.
  • Hosting and a security certificate, included.
  • Integrations with "most agency management systems, comparative raters and insurance technology solutions."
  • A content editor that works like a word processor.
  • Customer reviews you can show on the site.

Zywave's 2023 info sheet adds "6+ personalized website templates". It also lists business listings, reputation tools, social posts, a monthly page or blog post and monthly reports. Features "vary based upon package selected". The Insurance Website Builder features page lists carrier quote engines, carrier payment links and 99.995% uptime.

Ask which of these are in the package you are quoted. Our guide to online quoting on your site covers what a rater link does for a shopper.

What does Zywave Websites cost?

Zywave doesn't publish a price for Zywave Websites. Its pages offer a demo, and the info sheet gives a phone number. Ask for a written quote that shows these four things:

  • The setup fee and the monthly fee.
  • The term length and when it renews.
  • Which features from the list above are included.
  • What each add-on costs.

Without a published price, we can't give you a fair cost comparison. Put the written quote next to a custom quote, line by line.

What do Zywave's contract terms say?

Zywave's current agreement is a term contract with automatic renewal. It covers subscriptions that started on or after January 26, 2026, and older ones may differ. The main points:

  • Renewal. Each term renews for the same length unless either side gives written notice 60 days before it ends.
  • Ending early. The customer can end the agreement on 30 days' notice for an uncured breach by Zywave, or if Zywave's work breaks the law. The agreement gives no right to cancel simply for convenience.
  • Refunds. "Orders are non-cancelable, non-refundable and non-returnable."
  • Materials. All Zywave materials are "proprietary to Zywave or its licensors."
  • After it ends. Zywave returns or destroys confidential information within 90 days.

Ask which terms apply before you sign: The Insurance Website Builder page says "No contracts," while Zywave's agreement renews automatically with 60 days' notice (Zywave agreement).

The agreement doesn't say who owns the finished site or the domain. Register the domain in your own name, and ask in writing what you can take with you. Our website ownership checklist lists what to collect.

How does Zywave Websites compare with a custom site?

The main differences are design, integrations and terms. This table uses Zywave's published material and the terms a custom studio would set out in its contract.

Zywave Websites Custom site
Design Set up from Zywave's templates Designed for your agency
Insurance content Provided by Zywave, varies by package Written for you or supplied by you
Rater link Integrations with Zywave's rater and others Scoped with the project
Price On request Varies; ours is $2,000 to start, then $99/month for hosting and care
Term Renews automatically, 60 days' notice Set by the studio's contract
Leaving Zywave materials stay with Zywave Set by the studio's contract

When is Zywave Websites the better choice?

It is the better choice when rater integration and ready-made insurance content matter more than a unique design. Agencies that already quote in TurboRater or use other Zywave tools may value one vendor for all of them. It also suits agencies that want marketing services in the same contract.

A custom site fits better when you want a design and lead flow built around your agency, or a dashboard of your own. Compare all three kinds of option in our agency website options guide, or see the Agency Revolution comparison.

What would a custom site from Webdimonia include?

Our Website plan is $2,000 to start, then $99/month for hosting and care, for captive and independent agencies alike. You approve the design before development starts, and the site comes with an admin dashboard for leads and content. The steps are on our website design page.

Bring your Zywave quote to a website strategy call and we will go through it line by line with ours.

Common questions

  • Both belong to Zywave since it bought ITC. The Insurance Website Builder site still uses the ITC name, while Zywave sells Zywave Websites under its own. Ask your rep which product and which terms your quote covers.

  • Capterra lists the product as Zywave Websites. Read the newest reviews first, because the product and its owner have changed over the years. Ask Zywave for two or three agencies near you to call.

  • Keep it in your own name at your own registrar, and you can point it anywhere. The agreement doesn't address domains, so get the answer in writing.

  • Zywave sells TurboRater and links its websites to comparative raters. Which quoting tools come with your site depends on the package, so ask for it in the quote.
